U16 Boys Take FPYC Tournament Championship

Championship Match goes to PK's Where BRYC Boys Were Perfect

The BRYC U16 Boys All Star team was entered in the FPYC Father’s Day Tournament. The team was coached by veteran coach Scott Sarratt. It included players from all three U16 Boys SFL teams. From the beginning it seemed as if the odds were against the team. One of the nominated players broke his wrist right before the spring season ended and was out for the tournament. Another player from the same SFL team pulled his hamstring during the team’s first All Star practice. He too was out for the tournament.

It was a bright sunny summer day perfect for soccer. The boys took the field against a very strong team from VSA. BRYC took an early lead with a well-placed through pass to one of their strikers who put the ball into the back of the net. The same striker scored again giving the team a 2-0 lead at the half. VSA didn’t give up and fought for a scoreless second half.

The afternoon game was the exact opposite. Coach Scott was absent for his daughter’s graduation. Coach Melissa ran the team. The first half was scoreless, but BRYC scored twice, once off a corner kick and once from an assist.

BRYC was at the top of the standings with one game to go to make it to the Championship. The next day bright and sunny. The boys played at 8 AM. They faced a very determined team from Chantilly that was out of the competition but wanted to knock the top team out. Sixty minutes of hard soccer were contested. At the end it was a scoreless tie. Braddock Road was on to the Championship.

The boys faced a very good team from PWSI in the Championship game. This team had the same record as BRYC, but had scored ten goals in their last two games. They faced a team from Braddock Road that had not given up a goal in the tournament. Both teams had their chances, but defense held firm for both teams. At the half, it was scoreless. The second half was also hard fought, but halfway through, one of Braddock Road’s strikers put the ball into the net for a one goal lead. PWSI was not willing to concede the game and pressed even harder. With less than two minutes to go, they put the equalizer into the net.

Two scoreless overtime periods followed. Then it was onto PK’s. PWSI won the toss and went first. They scored. BRYC scored. The next two players also scored. The third PWSI kicker approached the net and missed. BRYC scored to take the lead. The next two players from each team scored. Braddock Road won the PK shootout 5-4. Out of ten kickers, ninety percent scored. That’s as good as the pros.

Thank you boys for a great Father’s Day present !!!!!
